Here at
St.Johns we welcome all those from the Parish who bring
themselves or their children forward for Baptism. Infant and
adult Baptism alike are great occasions for the family and
for the church community and the birth of a child is particularly
a time of great joy and celebration. Baptism marks the beginning
of our life-long Christian journey of faith and discipleship.
Our own baptism preparation program for children begins with
a service of Thanksgiving for the Birth of Child, which takes
place at a main Sunday morning Service; the following week
the Baptism service itself takes place. In the weeks preceding
the Baptism, a Baptism Visitor and a member of the Clergy
will call round to catch up with the family and talk through
the service and what it means to live the Christian life.
The service of Holy Baptism usually takes place on a Sunday
afternoon. We try to keep these services relaxed and informal
and we encourage everyone to actively participate in what
is going on. We use the symbols of light, oil and water to
illustrate our journey towards God. Each child receives a
baptism certificate and a baptism candle to remind them of
this special day. If you are an adult wishing to explore the
Christian life and possible Baptism, St Johns also provides
time and space for you to explore this calling.

God has received you by Baptism into his Church.
We welcome you into the Lords family.
